As a way to meet physical needs of warmth, we focus on giving opportunities during the Advent season with our Warmth of Giving worship services.
We ask Sunday School classes to help with this project. In their designated worship service, at a time of offering, we ask class members to come forward with the individual items of warmth for that Sunday and place them under the Chrismon tree.
It is not necessary to wrap the items as they will need to be bagged for delivery to the various shelters and schools.
The project begins during the worship service on the first Sunday of Advent and concludes during the Christmas Eve service.
Those not in a Sunday School class are invited to participate by choosing the Sunday they would like to bring the designated items of warmth and come forward on that Sunday with the Leader class.
Our Warmth of Giving project benefits Millbrook Elementary School, the Raleigh Rescue Mission, the Salvation Army, Urban Ministries, and the Wake Interfaith Hospitality Network. Millbrook Elementary School has a direct link with homeless families of Wake County through their former program, A Growing Place, and they share the items with the homeless families of Wake County.
