Dorcas Sewing Ministry

The Dorcas Sewing Ministry provides an opportunity for fellowship while making quilts, turbans, children’s clothing and other things for those in need. The group meets upstairs in room #216 of the education wing.

During 2010, 12 bunk bed quilts, 26 large receiving blankets, 30 dresses, and 190 baby hats were made for Journey Partners, a ministry led by Bonnie Dixon. These items, along with some teacher and student supplies, and some birthing kits, were taken to Zimbabwe in June, 2010. See slide show below.

The Dorcas Sewing Ministry of Millbrook Baptist Church worked diligently for months to make 50 dresses and 50 short/t-shirt sets for us to take to the children of Honduras for our mission trip August 12-21, 2011.

The pastor of Iglesias de Dios (Church of God) opened the doors of his church so we could use it as a distribution site. He and his wife contacted the neediest families in San Nicolas. Naturally everybody showed up. The clothes were placed on the steps that lead up to the podium so everyone could see what we brought. Two of our dearest friends, Mima and her daughter Patti, were very instrumental in helping the children find the right size dress or short set that would fit them best. When I asked some of the girls to put the dresses on so I could take their picture, they were excited to do so. The Dorcas Sewing Circle also made a few dresses for older women which were quickly taken.
