New Pastor
Rev. Andrea Dellinger Jones has been named the new senior minister of Millbrook Baptist Church.
Sunday (April 6) will be her first service. A formal installation service will be announced in the coming weeks.
Rev. Jones brings more than eight years of ministerial experience and leadership in local churches in Georgia and Virginia. She comes to Millbrook Baptist from Chestnut Grove Baptist Church in Earlysville, Va.
The church's 11th senior minister in its 133-year history, Rev. Jones is the church's first woman senior minister - and one of only a handful in North Carolina.
According to an article last year in "Baptist Women in Ministry" a 2006 study counted 12 female pastors and copastors in the state. "We are rare in numbers." Jones said.
She is a graduate of Rhodes College and the McAfee School of Theology at Mercer University and is currently completing her Doctor of Ministry degree at the Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond, Va.
Rev. Jones hails from Rome, Georgia and is married to Brent Jones who is currently completing his Ph.D. in American Religious History through the University of Virginia.
"Rev. Jones is a great fit for Millbrook Baptist at this time in our history," said Van Ward, chair of the Pastor Search Committee. "Over the generations, Millbrook has engaged the culture of each era, and we look forward to new ways in which we can engage the culture of the 21st century."
Rev. Jones' appointment coincides with major construction at Millbrook Baptist. Targeted for completion in June, the project will add more than 8,000 square feet of education space.
