365-Day Walk for Peace
365-DAY LABYRINTH WALK FOR PEACE
      “When ONE…
               person prays and meditates….
               family embraces the idea….
               group adopts the practice….
               community focuses on peaceful living….
percent of the population prayerfully meditates….
Our World becomes a better place…
And each ONE benefits from an inner calm and a more balanced life.”

Members and friends of Millbrook took part in a 365-day Labyrinth Walk for Peace January 1, 2010 - December 31, 2010. MBC members and individuals from other churches committed to walking the labyrinth a specific day each month for the entire year for the purpose of praying intentionally for peace. Others who were not able to commit to walking a specific day walked whenever they could. It has been great to hear about some of the experiences our walkers had. God is touching their hearts as they pray for God's peace to surround those they know and those around the world whom they don't know.

New Building Dedication

 Building Dedication September 7, 2008

Dedication and Dreams

The ideas and dreams of a building project that began well over ten years ago have now become a reality.  For some it has been a long wait.  Millbrook Baptist Church can again open its front doors to all who wish to join us.  We are beginning to use the spacious classrooms and to enjoy the wonderful facilities that reflect the fruits of labor and love for this church.  There is just one thing left to do.  Give thanks.

The rich history of Millbrook Baptist Church has experienced many thankful occasions, but few as momentous as this one.  Years ago the building fund was set up and generous contributions were made and accumulated.  Through these years many people have spent long hours in planning meetings and discussion groups.  Groups within the church were asked to express ther needs for space and design.

Then, just a little over a year ago, when the rising cost of construction and limited funds made it look as if the dream would be postponed indefinitely, a generous gift restarted the engine of progress.  Smaller obstacles fell away.  The object of all the planning and praying begin to rise from the ground and take shape...the completed building unites our church and exceeds all our expectations.

"Building on the Word" -- A Walk-Through of Our New Building

On Sunday, May 18, 2008 at the close of our worship service, everyone had the opportunity to tour our new building and to write their favorite bible verse on the unfinished floor of the new addition.  When the building is completely finished, what we have written will be covered by the permanent flooring, but we will know the versus are there and that we are building on the Word!

N&O Article about Our New Pastor

New Pastor

Rev. Andrea Dellinger Jones has been named the new senior minister of Millbrook Baptist Church.

Sunday (April 6) will be her first service.  A formal installation service will be announced in the coming weeks.

Rev. Jones brings more than eight years of ministerial experience and leadership in local churches in Georgia and Virginia.  She comes to Millbrook Baptist from Chestnut Grove Baptist Church in Earlysville, Va.

The church's 11th senior minister in its 133-year history, Rev. Jones is the church's first woman senior minister - and one of only a handful in North Carolina.

According to an article last year in "Baptist Women in Ministry" a 2006 study counted 12 female pastors and copastors in the state.  "We are rare in numbers." Jones said.

She is a graduate of Rhodes College and the McAfee School of Theology at Mercer University and is currently completing her Doctor of Ministry degree at the Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond, Va.

Rev. Jones hails from Rome, Georgia and is married to Brent Jones who is currently completing his Ph.D. in American Religious History through the University of Virginia.

"Rev. Jones is a great fit for Millbrook Baptist at this time in our history," said Van Ward, chair of the Pastor Search Committee. "Over the generations, Millbrook has engaged the culture of each era, and we look forward to new ways in which we can engage the culture of the 21st century."

Rev. Jones' appointment coincides with major construction at Millbrook Baptist.  Targeted for completion in June, the project will add more than 8,000 square feet of education space.

Minister of Music

Millbrook Baptist Church voted unanimously on Sunday, October 11, 2009 to call Dr. James Good as our Minister of Music and Church Organist. Dr. Good comes to Millbrook Baptist with vast expertise and experience in church music, directing and organ. A member of the American Guild of Organists, Hymn Society of America and The Organ Historical Society, Dr. Good has served as Instructor and Professor of Church Music at Southern Seminary, Southeastern Seminary and Campbell Divinity School, provided extensive concertizing, leadership and consultation throughout the southeast , and has served as Minister of Music and Organist on various church staffs. We are fortunate to have Dr. and Mrs. Good join us and look forward to his sharing his music with Millbrook.
